ADVANCES IN PHYSICAL TESTING: VALD & BLAZEPODS
The ability to assess a client’s muscular strength, joint range of motion, movement patterns, reaction speed as well as decision making has become much easier over the past few years thanks to impressive advancements in technology.
Here at Shellharbour Physiotherapy, our ability to provide clients with real time feedback and prescribe individualised programming has been enhanced through the use of our VALD ForceDecks and DynaMo, as well as the very fun and engaging Blazepod reflex training system.
Force Decks
Our VALD ForceDecks are a force plate system that provides real time analysis of muscular strength, imbalance and movement patterns. With the ability to record baseline data, track progress and assess injury risk, our Force Decks can be used across a wide range of clients. This includes athletes as well as patients presenting with musculoskeletal, neurological, or orthopaedic conditions.
Example assessments include:
Balance testing
Jump technique
Hop testing
Squat technique and assessment
Shoulder strength
Lower limb strength
Dynamo
The VALD DynaMo is an dual dynamometer and inclinometer with the capability to perform over 200 tests. In clinic, we use the DynaMo to assess grip strength, joint ranges of motion and muscular imbalances of the upper and lower body, comparing right and left sides. Providing real time feedback, the DynaMo allows for fast, on-the-spot information to be passed onto our patients. Using the data collected, we can then prescribe individualised exercise programs to target specific muscular or joint imbalances.
BLAZEPODS
A favourite piece of equipment amongst our staff and patients alike! The Blazepod flash reflex training system requires cognitive and physical skill with the aim of enhancing reaction time, decision making, agility, problem solving, balance, coordination, and multi-tasking. Incorporated into appointments in-clinic, we have used Blazepods with our Shellharbour Physiotherapy athletes, active aging classes, and patients presenting with conditions ranging from Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, acquired brain injury and more.
If you would like a VALD assessment or are interested in using our Blazepods in-clinic give us a call on 4296 1555 or talk to one of our Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists.
